With farming very much in the doldrums these days, something in the region of 50% of farms sold are sold to non-farmers. This means that all the farm equipment has to be disposed of, usually at a sale on the premises where everything is auctioned. These sales are of great interest to the smallholder, as small items of equipment are often sold at knock-down prices. Look out for announcements in your local newspaper, or ask the local auctioneer to put you on their mailing list to receive advance notice of forthcoming sales.
