Potted Cheese

225g cheese, such as Cheddar or Cheshire - grated
55g butter - softened
1tsp Worcester sauce
1/2tsp grated nutmeg
3tbsp Madiera
Melted butter to seal


  • Mix the cheese with the butter, Worcester sauce and nutmeg until combined
  • Add the Madeira and beat until well mixed
  • Spoon into small pots or ramekins, pressing down well
  • Smooth the tops and cover with melted butter
  • Store in the fridge until needed
  • Remove from the fridge an hour before serving

To Serve

Spread on bread, toast or with salad
